  7. What advantages your browser than Google Chrome?

    ReplyDelete
  8. Of course Chrome has a lot of useful features, it is more stable, graphics is better, etc. It's hard to compete 1 man X 3 month free-time MB project against 50-100 people X 2-3 years Chrome one.
But still MB has a few advantages:
    - build-in adblock, which filters out all suspicious requests to 2nd-part servers which are not belongs to server you originaly requested. MB also blocks all hidden requests to different "garbage" sites like e.g. google-adsence, different counter-sites, etc.. Chrome firstly loads all data and after that run "clean up" ad-block scripts, which only blocks the banners stuff.
    - slim address & tabbar which gives more room for web page to display especially useful for small screen resolution netbooks
    - browser does not stores any browsing data out of MiniBrowser installation directory. So u can use it as portable one right from usb key. Size of MiniBrowser directory < 50Mb. Chrome stores tones of data in C:\Documents and Settings\...\ folders
    - MB can translate right from address bar
    - MB can search in wikipedia right from address bar
    ..other small gui things like:
    - scroll page using right button mouse click and move on any place on screen screen
    - scroll page just by clicking on tabbar icon
    etc....

    Thanks for understanding :-)

  10. This feature will be included in next release: either 4.1 or 5.0 (depends of ammount of new features). Planned release Q1 2011.

  11. Excellent job on this: fast and small, with some very nice shortcuts. I'd like to be able to change the default search engine from google to yubnub - it's not essential, but if you can work it into the next release....

    ReplyDelete
  12. selection of another search engine might be implemented in release 5. thank you for feedback :-)

  13. I've try out the mobile version of the browser in my C6-00 which is running S60v5. It crashes everytime it tries to load a page. Is it only compatible with Symbian^3? The browser looks pretty sweet and it's based on Qt, the UI is very responsive.

    ReplyDelete
  14. unfortunately the MiniBrowser Mobile 1.0 does not support S60v5 as it facing some memory issues on 5th ed. devices. The browser is tested and fully supported by Symbian^3 devices. I am working on new 2.0 version which might support 5th edition as well. ...but I cannot promise this right now. Sorry.

    ReplyDelete
  15. Minibrowser Symbian s^3 is Very Nice.. Just one major bug.. There is no ability to remember logins..
I like the Tabs and simplicity though.. Has much potential..Keep at it,,

    ReplyDelete
  16. Its not a bug, its just missing feature. Working on it, will be in next update...

    ReplyDelete
  17. great, looking forward to it..
will post it on Whirlpool when its fixed..

  18. First of all I would like to thank you for creating mini browser it is indeed one of the most interesting web experience in mobile phones I have ever had. I using it on a Nokia N8, i was wondering if theres a chance of having the feature "save as..." for pictures, documents and etc... Pinch to zoom, double tap or similar? I noticed that the zoom works like if the page was a some sort of a print screen, the text gets blurry. Is this going to be improved? Well thanks again for your time, this could easily replace symbian default browser with flash support, or even Opera mobile with the right tools and improvements. Stay Classy.

    ReplyDelete
  19. Thank you for feedback guys. Yes, all these features waiting to be implemented somewhere during the summer, I hope...

    ReplyDelete
  20. Yes, it has already replaced the default on my N8..
But not Opera Mobile.. Although , with some improvements as mentioned above, it could give Opera a challenge..Pinch to zoom, isnt that important, however an extra zoom setting between 100 and 150 , would be handy.
The most pressing thing at this stage is the ability to save logins..
But many others like this browser. With some improvements , it could be great.

    ReplyDelete
  21. The MiniBrowser Mobile could be a revolution for Symbian^3 users, but it would be great to support Flash and Java Script, because some webpages let the MiniBrowser crash...

But all in all it's a very convenient and fast browser...

    ReplyDelete
  22. Thanks for the feedback. Yes, I know, MB for symbian missing very important feature - flash support. Unfortunately QtWebKit mobile library does not support it directly right now. I'm trying to find workaround here and I hope it will be included in next MB release soon. JavaScript is supported but might be unstable for some of websites, again QtWebKit limitations at the moment. It will be improved as will by Qt developers... just wait for updates :-)

  23. Hi, why you dont publish this project into google code or sourceforge, so random peeps would contribute?

I am not a coder but been following this project.

  24. Interesting idea, I will think about this...

  25. DMKHO have you seen pixelpipe facebook browser application? It works pretty well, i think that a fusion between minibrowser 2.0 interface and pixelpipe browser that has an overall better performance than minibrowser would be perfect.

    Pixelpipe advantages over Minibrowser:

    - General scrolling/and kinectic scrolling of the page and sensitivity is more user friendly; minibrowser is too fast.

    - Boxes with text for choosing different options, like the one below the comment section "Comment as: Google account" works, minibrowser for some reason opens "back button" at the same time and closes the options when trying to choose one.

    - Loads a bit more content on the webs

    - It also has "+" "-" zoom, but real zoom: text and other contents keeps its quality while zooming, it also allows a larger zoom out than minibrowser, to see bigger webs.

    - It seems to store username and password, both , allowing faster sign on webs. Minibrowser for some reason does not save passwords, only usernames.

    - Tool bar on the bottom has a better design, back forward arrows and + and - sizes and pictures are good, settings options slides from the top like Qt alike apps wich is visually appelling, though it only has 2 options "sign out (from facebook)" and "quit".

    Main disadvantages:

    - It is not a browser per se, it opens facebook touch web site only.

    - No adress bar or search tool, no bookmarks, does not have tabs.

    - It is a bit slower compared to Minibrowser, it loads page with a difference of 1 - 5 seconds more than minibrowser.

    - Does not have pop up blocker.

    - Pixelpipe does not seem interested in releasing a browser and no answer for support.

I have noticed that some people is following this project, and since symbian pr 2.0 (anna) new browser does not seem to be the final solution for web browsing on our nokias, and Opera Mini/Mobile are slow, kind of "chunky" outdated without support for html5, java, flash and etc; I think minibrowser has the opportunity to replace them all.

(Over Opera mobile the only real advantage is that it seems to connect everytime, and really fast to any connection available on my device, 2g/3g or wifi. Sometimes when opera mobile does not connect, and the default browser also fails, minibrowser for some reason loads right and uses the connections. Opera mobile does have save image as.. speed dial and a lot of functions that makes it the best one for the moment)

These are some random ideas, I thought that some feedback could help, i am not talking about flash support on the browser, I was thinking that if flash support will delay, a refreshed interface and pixelpipe alike aproach on a pre release from "next" version would be great.

    Thanks DMKHO, great browser.

  26. Thank you for the feedback! It is very useful for me. Within few weeks I will release version 3.0 which will include most of the missing features you mentioned above. ...not all of them, because QtWebKit engine by itself has some bugs and limitations, but I will try my best to make the browser better.

    ReplyDelete
  27. If you plan on release a beta version I will be glad to try it out!

    ReplyDelete
  28. I'm sorry, but I have to say, that the Mini Browser Mobile 3.0 is not been replaced with the 2.0, it's still the 2.0 for download.

    ReplyDelete
  29. yes, it is Ovi Store known bug: description comes first and installation file with 1-2 days delay.
Now the 3.0 installation is available for download.

  30. Tested it, 255 html5 score + 13 extra.
    Browsermark: 22064

Noted that theres pinch to zoom :P
What webkit version this is running?

    ReplyDelete
  31. version 534.3 (Qt 4.7.3), btw. you can check it by loading the webpage http://myuseragent.com

  32. Testing new version now! Still having issues with option boxes, and password saving.

    ReplyDelete
  33. Hmm, I thought option boxes problem was fixed. Can you give me an example of webpage I can try to reproduce it?
Password saving was partly implemented in 3.0 PLUS version in light of persistant cookies save option in settings. It will be available soon in Ovi Store. This feature will be fully implemented in next version (4.0 or 3.1?) I am working right now. But if you use 3.0 PLUS it will work for all pages with checkbox "keep login info" or something like this, e,g, gmail.

    ReplyDelete
  34. Thanks for the useragent info, btw theres Qtwebkit 2.2 soon ready so you can use that with Qt 4.7.3

Hey, i got one suggestion, would it be possible to zoom out the page little more so navigation would be easyer?

Do you have any plans to make this opensource?
or something forums or getsatisfaction thing so messaging would be easyer.

    ReplyDelete
  35. I plan to make double click zooming configurable in next versions (as Opera do), for now you can use pinch-to-zoom for more precise navigation purpose. It zooms up to 400%.

Opensource: this is still under questionmark, especially in light of symbian-qt going to be dead soon according the Elop bright idea and this project will loose public interest accordingly.

    ReplyDelete
  36. DMKHO: Done. I have used the 3.0 version for a few hours and I must admit the improvements are worth of an updated version. Pinch to zoom works really well, and kinetic scrolling is also neat. Overall performance is good, i see some hardware limitations on the nokia n8 in terms of response and speed but it has a decent delay time depending on the weight of the web. Now: boxes works a little bit better, I have realized that you must choose the box panel and leave the finger on the screen to be able to choose your option. If you do not hold it closes the box automatically. I can get used to that, but i found a bug. When scrolling the finger down to search more options the box works well, but if you try scrolling back to first options the box does not seem to move up. examples: on gsmarena.com reviews you have a box that gives you the optiin to choose wich part of the review you want to see, in general up to 8 topics. 1. Introduction 2. Design and body 3. User interface ... 8. Conclusion final words. Then the zoom out is still way too cloose, it makes webs like engadget a pain to navigate. I will buy the plus version when it comes out, what are the differences, apart from the passwords? Thanks DMKHO you are doing a great job with this one.

    ReplyDelete
  37. Thanks for feedback StripTheSoul! I will take care of these issues in next version.
3.0 PLUS version not so much differs from the regular one. There is added keep cache and cookies option and save files/images feature. The plus version is more like just as "donate" version of MiniBrowserMobile. I'm pretty busy with other stuff and based on people interest to plus version I can measure how much of my spare time I will spend with this project. Major thing planned in 4.0 right now: flash video support ..and of course QtWebKit upgrade, improvements, bugfixes etc, etc...

    ReplyDelete
  38. Ok I am buying plus version right now to support the project.

    ReplyDelete
  45. It is not precise date set yet, but new update is coming late December this year - January 2012. Depending on amount of features it will be 3.1 or 4.0

  46. Those are good news (: meanwhile i will still use the 3.0 version, mobile pages are a joy to use, better than opera

  47. DMKHO, Mini Browser is an excellent product. I am running version 5.0 and it's really fast compared to IE or even Firefox. I guess MB cannot run videos? I'm no expert on software but I can access all the text and pic sites all over the web but when I go to YouTube, it will not start (or just shows loading spinning arrow) but never completes. Is this because it won't work or am I doing something wrong? Do I need to add some tools?

Keep up the good work. By the way, I think you could receive payment from users if you just asked for it. MB is certainly worth at least a few dollars. Good luck! Henry V.

    ReplyDelete
  48. DMKHO, I think I found the problem....I am running Windows 7 which I believe is not supported for MB. Oh well, I'll still use it at work where we're still running XP. Still a fantastic product. Henry V.

    ReplyDelete
  49. DMKHO, your specs sheet says it should work under Windows 7, can you help to see why the videos won't play from any website?

  50. Is there a way to use flash on minibrowser 5?

    ReplyDelete
    Replies
    1. This is the first priority for MiniBrowser 5 to provide Flash support. Unfortunately QtWebKit for Nokia still has no direct support for it (and seems it will never happen), so we are working hard on workaround way to support it.

  51. This is a superb browser indeed. It's way way better than the bigger players.

I am using windows version 5 of Mini Browser and really like it a lot.

its very very fast and stable and compatable

i also use an accelerator on my DSL phone line called "hola".

The browser seems to try very hard to run Java but crashes. I was trying the cloud browser
tool called "ispaces" but it won't run the Java on your tool. ANy idea if the Java will work?

i am running the very latest java for browsers.

    1. Thank for feedback Vince. This Java instability is related to QtWebKit layer. You can try MiniBrowser 6 beta which has updated Qt libraries.
